Head of Strategy / Chief of Staff Germany (m/f/d)

Job purpose:

• Primary responsibility of the role reporting to the Country President Germany & General Manager Oncology is to lead strategic and transformational initiatives at Business Unit Oncology Germany and Novartis Germany level, with the aim of maximizing economic value and securing future competitive advantage. The person in this senior role will be responsible for managing a portfolio of flagship projects, ensuring they deliver critical business impact, and building lasting capability in the in-country teams to deliver on business priorities. The position is part of the Oncology Leadership Team Germany.

Main accountabilities:

BU Oncology/Novartis Germany Strategy:
• Actively contribute and facilitate annual strategic planning process as well as lead and support benchmarking the performance of Novartis Germany in relation to industry
• Coordinate and prioritize portfolio of initiatives, assess resource needs and monitor timely implementation
• Develop network of functional experts and strategy managers across Novartis to effectively align global, regional and local strategic priorities

Strategic Projects:
• Drives and manages major strategic projects (OBU and Novartis Germany) from project scoping, creating content, stakeholder management to generating strategic insights based on best-in-class analytics, distilling outputs and recommendations, which enable informed decisions; leading Project Realization office and coordinating work stream activities
• Plans, develops and implements projects for the German market which will lead to commercial benefit for the company (Outcomes Based Commercial Models)
• Develop integrated Novartis Corp German Strategy across Divisions (Pharma, Oncology, Sandoz) and Functions (GDD, NTO, CTS)
• Identify opportunities based on Novartis priorities and market needs and co-create with decision makers in the German healthcare ecosystems
• Connect x-divisional, x-functional and x-country projects with business priorities of BU Oncology Germany
• Enable internal Novartis associates to drive projects successfully. Educate/train Novartis country/franchise teams to drive (parts of) agreed upon project independently and coach associates to ensure positive project outcome
• Design and deliver organization-wide capability building program, including designing program goals and developing RFP

Minimum requirements

What you’ll bring to the role:

• Based on a Master of Science/MBA and/or a PhD degree, you should have a minimum of 7-10 years of overall professional experience within the pharmaceutical industry (ideally within organizations with large scale and complexity); a Consultancy background would be beneficial
• Functional breadth: required experience in a minimum of 2 functions (sales, marketing, medical, market access)
• Furthermore you should have experience with strategy development, portfolio and financial management and you should have managed large scope transformation projects
• Experience with collaborating across divisions, functions and countries and international experience
• Organization Scope: Exposure to organizations with large scale and complexity
• Digital savvy
• Fluent English and German language skills

Technical / Functional Skills & Knowledge:
• Modelling and Quantifying Business and Investment Cases with High Uncertainty
• Developing and Delivering Story Flows and Presentations for Management
• Strategic thinking and planning
• Knowledge of current and future global business trends
• Assessing impact of (internal & external) changes on the HCS
• Knowledge of understanding and knowing how to address the challenges in the healthcare environment
